Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 10 December 2024: Adyen, the global financial technology platform of choice for leading businesses, has officially enabled Tap to Pay on iPhone for customers in the UAE, which allows businesses to use an iPhone and supporting iOS app to accept contactless payments without the need to purchase or manage additional hardware. Among the first to implement Tap to Pay on iPhone in stores is the Italian professional cosmetics brand KIKO Milano.

Tap to Pay on iPhone allows merchants to accept all forms of contactless payments, including contactless credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and other digital wallets, using only an iPhone and a supporting iOS app — no additional hardware or payment terminal needed. At checkout, merchants will simply prompt the customer to hold their contactless payment near the merchant’s iPhone, and the payment will be securely completed using NFC technology.

Tap to Pay on iPhone means merchants no longer have to rely on additional hardware devices or POS terminals, since they’re not always portable, and can instead achieve greater efficiency and offer their customers a more satisfying shopping experience.

Apple’s Tap to Pay on iPhone technology uses the built-in features of iPhone to keep the business and customer data private and secure. When a payment is processed, Apple doesn’t store card numbers or transaction information on the device or on Apple servers.

"We are happy to announce the arrival of Tap to Pay on iPhone for our UAE customers. Tap to Pay on iPhone provides a fast and secure checkout experience for merchants and customers with the removal of the traditional barriers and challenges associated with payment hardware,” says Daumantas Grigaravicius, Head of Middle East at Adyen. "The launch is part of Adyen’s broader strategy that aims to extend access to contactless payments to more and more businesses globally following launches in the UK, France, and the Netherlands.”

To support this service in KIKO Milano’s stores, Adyen has partnered with New Black, a leading unified commerce platform provider. Pim Vijftigschild, Chief Commercial Officer at New Black, explains: “Tap to Pay on iPhone is transforming contextual commerce by enabling faster and more efficient transactions with quicker checkout times. Accepting payments on an iPhone elevates the shopping experience and ultimately drives customer loyalty.”

Tap to Pay on iPhone allows Adyen customers to stay at the forefront of innovation by:

  • Simplifying in-person payments by eliminating reliance on additional payment terminals to accept transactions.

  • Getting up and running quickly with installation and onboarding, allowing businesses to scale up their payment operation.

  • Providing fast, secure payment experiences that increase mobility on location and on the go.

  • Giving customers a convenient, private and secure means of payment. Transactions are encrypted, and Apple does not store card numbers or transaction information on the device or on Apple servers.

Existing Adyen customers can contact their account manager for more information on how to enable Tap to Pay on iPhone. Anyone who isn’t an Adyen customer can contact us here for more information.
