Hotel reservation service tripla adopts Adyen's payment platform

Enables centralized management of payment information and multi-currency payments, improving convenience for accommodation facilities

Adyen, the global financial technology platform of choice for leading companies, today announces its partnership with tripla, a Tokyo-based hotel solution provider. Tripla will start using Adyen's single platform for advance payment of room reservations and credit card payment of cancellation fees. Accommodation facilities using the ‘tripla Book’ reservation engine will be able to consolidate both domestic and international guests’ payment information and manage multi-currency payments flexibly.

The ‘tripla Book’ engine allows guests to complete a reservation in as few as two steps and allows advance payments by credit card when making reservations. Adyen was selected to handle multi-currency payments in response to expected future growth in inbound demand. Through this partnership, tripla will be able to accept multi-currency payments from guests for hotel reservations in the Asia-Pacific region at the most current and optimal exchange rates, thanks to Adyen.

The OTA (Online Travel Agent) industry has seen an increase in unauthorized cancellations by guests who make reservations but do not show up on the day of their stay has become a problem, resulting in an increased financial burden for accommodation facilities. If a guest who plans to pay on site cancels their reservation on the day of the stay, the accommodation facility must collect the cancellation fee. With tripla Pay, a Pay by Link service exclusively for accommodation facilities, the system issues a URL for the specified amount and send it by e-mail to the person who made the reservation, to charge the cancellation fee. Card information is protected by a security technology called network token, which also reduces the risk of fraudulent transactions and data breaches.

In recent years, a significant increase in inbound demand has pressured Japanese companies to respond to globalization. Adyen is the only payment service provider in Japan to offer a single platform that provides an end-to-end payment solution for multiple sales channels globally. Adyen's platform not only offers the flexibility to support the global payment methods for global business expansion of the merchants, but also enables the consolidation of payment data across all global channels on a single screen. By analyzing this transaction data, merchants can gain insight into global customer behavior, as well as detect and address trends in credit card fraud.

Kazuhisa Takahashi, CEO of tripla, said, “With the ever-increasing demand for inbound travel, we are very pleased to be able to offer our accommodation customers a more innovative payment system by implementing Adyen's platform. Adyen's platform enables us to flexibly handle multi-currency transactions, which is a great contribution to tripla's globalization. In addition, Adyen's risk management solution will help prevent travel payment fraud, a rising issue in recent years. This will reduce problems for accommodation facilities using tripla's services and improve the reservation rate for our customers. We will continue to provide solutions for various payment scenarios with the improved convenience of the tripla payment system.”

Adam Brownstein, Adyen's Country Manager for Japan, said, “We are delighted that tripla has chosen Adyen's platform to provide a more optimized payment system to all partnering accommodation facilities. Adyen's payment platform offers our merchants real-time, integrated management of global payment data, supporting the global expansion of Japanese accommodation facilities. In addition, as inbound demand continues to grow, Adyen's multi-currency payment support and local acquiring licenses will improve authorization rates, optimize transaction fees, and speed up payments in each market. We will contribute to the global expansion of Japanese companies through our payment solution.”
