Intellitix has been at the forefront of the RFID solutions industry for over a decade, revolutionizing how major live events worldwide handle cashless payments and access control.
Their integrated platform has successfully served over 40 million guests, processed 30+ million cashless transactions, and facilitated over $2 billion in cashless spending. The best names in live entertainment, including Republic Live (Boots and Heart), Whitecap Entertainment (Sommo, Cavendish), Tomorrowland, Playa Luna Presents, and San Diego Comic-Con, trust Intellitix to deliver exceptional guest experiences.
Now event organizers have even more flexibility, control, and data with ITX Payments powered by Adyen for Platforms. Launched in 2024, ITX Payments lets event organizers control their money as a merchant of record and streamline operations with a single solution.
We spoke with Marc-André Simard, Senior Vice President of Operations at Intellitix to learn how bringing seamless, secure transactions to global events helps keep Intellitix ahead of the curve.
A track record of industry firsts
When Intellitix launched in 2011, RFID was still a fairly new tool for live events. Long entry lines, and ATM bottlenecks were the norm, while goods were paid for with cash or cards. By 2012, Intellitix was being recognized in publications like Rolling Stone for their innovation in concert arenas and FastCompany for making the first three cash-free festivals possible in 2014.
A series of exciting accomplishments followed for Intellitix, including acquiring LOC Pay Systems in 2017, launching Intellitix Ticketing in 2021, and introducing the Intellitix FOS app in 2022. But they could not escape the rigidity of the payments industry or their previous providers’ limitations, which made it time-consuming and expensive to manage their payments worldwide.
True partnership for growth and innovation
From early on, payments played an important role in Intellitix’s solutions. But previous partners applied a one-size-fits-all approach that disregarded the needs of their specific industry. “We constantly faced limitations and had to find workarounds to satisfy our clients,” said Marc-André.
Intellitix discovered Adyen after one of their event organizers mentioned our financial technology platform in passing. After the initial call, it was clear to Marc-André that Intellitix had finally found the right payments partner: “[Adyen] understood our industry and was committed to making this work and helping us grow.”
Intellitix appreciates that Adyen regularly communicates about changes, new features being released, and updates, so they can stay informed. “Our account manager is also very proactive in sending us updates, news, and upcoming changes, which is good,” said Marc-André.
One integration to serve all clients
As a platform used by event organizers worldwide, Intellitix is no stranger to the operational challenges of managing a global payments strategy. But previous providers required them to negotiate different deals and implement separate integrations in different countries, even when with the same company due to differing systems. This was both time-consuming and expensive.
With Adyen, Intellitix has one integration to serve all their clients and can use the same payment terminal across countries. “The fact that [Adyen’s] devices can be used globally was a huge factor in our decision, as it provides us with much more flexibility,” said Marc-André.
Another factor in their decision to go with Adyen? Reliable technology that aligned with their core offering. “Being able to use a payment terminal with an RFID wristband or card was also very important to us, since RFID is at the forefront of our value proposition,” said Marc-André.
Payments both events and guests can rely on
Processing speed can make or break the attendee experience at large festivals and conventions. Unifying access control, ticketing, and payments with Intellitix helps major live events speed this important metric up to maximize revenue and uncover valuable guest data.
Chris MacIntyre, Controller at Whitecap Entertainment, cited Intellitix’s data availability as a main reason why the production company chose them to manage their lineup of festivals.
Using Intellitix to power access control, ticketing, and payments in one integrated solution has allowed Cavendish Beach Music Festival to offer a faster processing rate and a centralized view of all purchases for their audience of 60,000 country music fans—and increase tips by 1%.
“Our goal with Intellitix is to keep driving ongoing improvements to help us deliver even more optimization for our guests,” said Chris.
Revolutionizing the events experience, together
Moving to our financial technology platform has helped Intellitix launch their own payments solution and unlock a better processing rate for their event partners worldwide. “What really sets Adyen apart is their willingness to find solutions and help us grow,” said Marc-André.
Looking ahead, fans of Intellitix can expect more of the revenue-driving innovation they’re known for delivering. And Adyen will be there behind-the-scenes, cheering them on every step of the way with collaborative account management, enterprise-grade support, and industry expertise.
